Remix albums by rock bands inevitably engender the question: Why? In this case, the cynical answer is that without new material to record a follow-up to 2001's rap metal smash, Hybrid Theory, Linkin Park settled on the remix project to maintain cash flow. Motivation aside, one can at least credit the band and DJ Joseph Hahn in particular for putting in the work and bringing on enough guests to truly transform the original. Vocals and guitars are toned down in favor of hip hop beats and rhymes from a host of contributors like Kutmasta Kurt and Alchemist, and vocalists Jonathan Davis from Korn and Aaron Lewis from Staind. On Reanimation, the teenage energy of hits like "In the End" is "reanimated" into extended, 60-minute meditation, replete with segues and piano and violin interludes. Verdict: A downtime "curiosity" album likely to find its way directly to the discount bin.
